Summertime and the living is easy.  What better way to enjoy the long summer days than at a family friendly music festival?   Pack up the picnic blankets (and the tent if you’re feeling brave) and get set for a musical adventure at one of these family friendly festivals in and around Leeds.

The Deer Shed Festival, July 22 – 24

The Deer Shed Festival is a family friendly music, art and science festival set in the beautiful Balderby Park, North Yorkshire. This year’s “At the Movies” themed festival promises to be an unforgettable weekend.  Families can hear Mercury Nominated Everything, Everything, Brit winner Beth Orton, Richard Hawley and world renowned DJs Marc Riley and Andy Kershaw and more.  There will also be family friendly comedy and theatre, as well as a whole host of family friendly activities including a Science Tent, sports field, and art workshops.  There will be areas set up especially for toddlers and their grown ups with messy play, sensory workshops and Baby Raves.

Underneath the Start Festival, July 22 – 24

Yorkshire born folk star Kate Rusby will headline the Underneath the Stars Festival at Cannon Hall Farm along with American bluegrass star Ron Block (of Alison Krauss and Union Station), South African electro-pop group Bye Beneco and traditional Irish band Dervish. They will be joined by UK-based acts including singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Olivia Chaney; Scottish singer-songwriter Blue Rose Code; and winners of the 2015 BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award, Talisk.  The festival will also showcase up-and-coming talent from Yorkshire.

There will be plenty on to keep families busy all weekend with a craft village, storytelling, nature walks and street theatre to name a few.  Tickets also include half price entry to Cannon Hall Farm.

OnRoundHay Festival, September 17

Kids (under 12) go free to OnRounday Festival planned for RoundHay Park Leeds this September. OnRoundHay will offer live music, family entertainment and plenty of great food and drink.  Families can hear James, Primal Scream, Wolf Alice and more in the 100,000 capacity arena.  Children can also take part in a Village Green Sports Day or visit a Magical Storytelling Stage, where they can meet characters from Puffin Wold of Stories and see performances from some of their favourite CBeebies stars.
